Tribute doorknob; double sulphide portrait of Presidents James Monroe (left) and William Henry Harrison (right); "MONROE" and "HARRISON" inscribed along base of respective portraits; set on an opaque black ground; brass fitting

These two presidents sided with the protectionists in Congress who raised foreign tariffs on imported glass in 1816. The New England Glass Company honored the two politicians who sponsored the legislation, Henry Clay and Daniel Webster, and the two presidents by featuring their portraits in sulphides.
