Objects Sewing stand, ca. 1845

Ann Marie Jones of Tremont, Illinois, used this combination drop-leaf desk and sewing stand during a time when home sewing was done by hand. The top drawer contains a felt-covered writing board that can be lifted out for use. This drawer and the middle drawer held pens, paper, scissors, needles, and thread. The lower drawer has a deep, rounded bottom designed for convenient storage of fabric and needlework.
