Toy trains have been produced since the mid-nineteenth century, but the first American electric train was not manufactured until 1897, by Carlisle and Finch of Cincinnati, Ohio. Louis Marx & Company manufactured toys in New York from 1919 to 1979. By the 1950s they were the largest manufacturers of toys in the United States.
