Gothic Revival style
Walnut, reproduction upholstery

Fewer pieces of Gothic Revival style furniture exist today than other Victorian styles. When the style was new, writers called it expensive. Some designers offered a less expensive "cottage" variant. Most of the pieces that have survived are chairs. Many of these were probably used in churches or lodges, as furniture catalogs of the time suggest.
