Plates, cups, and saucers, 1800-1825

The popular King's Rose pattern evolved in England from the earthenware potter's desire to imitate fine Japanese porcelain. Imari--highly colorful and richly decorated porcelain arriving from the Japanese port of that name--was highly prized in Europe. The relatively inexpensive pearlware was a cream-colored earthenware with a glaze containing a blueing which "whitened" the finished piece.
