Who was Father Meurin?

Father Jacques Meurin was born in 1707 in Champagne, France. In 1742, he came to the Illinois colonies where he worked amongst the Kaskaskia Indians as a missionary and served the spiritual needs of the French settlers and African slaves. Meurin was an educated person who revealed many of his feelings and frustrations with his situation in his letters to his superiors.
