Ambroise Moreau was born in 1680 and died May 4, 1760. His wife, Jeanne Paule, died a few months after her husband. There are no records of any children. He first appears in the Illinois records in 1726 when he sold land in Fort de Chartres. In 1737 he was granted two and a half arpents of land at the new settlement Prairie du Rocher. In the 1752 census, he is listed as owning five arpents of land worth forty livres and a male and female black slave.
